Dear Anna, it sounds like the best possible thing, and like a lovely place. My best friend made the decision a few years back when taking care of her home and concerns about her health started to seem onerous. She now lives in a lovely seniors' community, and made the decision to move before she found it forced on her. She gets time to herself as she needs, community support, and without the hassles and worries of maintaining a house.
Your new home sounds wonderful, Anna. And you’re wise to recognise and accept that we all need to be in a community where we help and look out for each other. I know you’re going to be happy there and your Pollyanna will return. 💙
Great having you back over this side of the hills, Anna. Your writing groove can restore itself now. And great for you, still being on a convenient doorstep of so much by way of entertainment when you want it: cafes, cinema, beach and train. Having company for the hour train rides to Wellington, chatting as we go, instead of parting ways for our lonely rides home. Opera in Wellington this weekend. Nice! :))
Love your writing Anna - your story and the way you weave the words. My Mum is 90 next month and things are getting tougher for her but, in her village, she has managed wihtout the stress of gardens and maintenance all wile enjoying a warm place and lovely surrounds. She's at Shakespeare club and indoor bowls and she can move to the next level of care if she wants. I stayed there fora few weeks when she had a hip installed and was the youngest person in the village. Until then I had always thought it wouldn't be for me but actually....
Good decision Anna. You have a modern, low maintenance home, company when you need it, privacy when you don’t and relatively fixed costs when prices are out of control. You are back in a place you love and have released your family from worry about your future care, if you need it. Sounds like a win win to me. Good for you. Will be in touch re a coffee soon Xxx

Thanks Fran. Sounds very much like my situation. Early days, but everyone I have met so far is lovely and the complex and its setting are beautiful.

Thanks Amanda. I’m embracing it, whatever it is😄

Thanks Deb. Loving the endorsements. Tough decision because I don’t feel old enough but truth is, it may not be in my time, but it’s the right time.
